Location: Oron is located between latitude 5o North and longitude 9o East at the right bank of the lower estuary of the Cross River. It situates between Mbo Local Government Area in the South and South-East; Okobo Local Government Area in the North and North-East; Esit Eket and Ibeno Local Government Area in the South-West; and Cross River State in the North-East.

Chairman
Rt. Hon. Victor Ini okon
 Born on 5th July, 1967, he later attended Convent Primary School, Oron, and completed his primary education in 1979. Thereafter, he was admitted into Cardinal Ekanem Seminary College same year and in 1984 obtained the GCE, on completion.
He had nursed and expressed a strong desire to serve God as a Catholic priest and was therefore enrolled as a student in the philosophy studium (some sort of department) of seat of Wisdom Major Seminary, Owerri, Imo State, where he bagged the Bachelor of Philosophy, B.Phil (Hons) in 1992. He had since been in the service of the church before opting for politics in 1995.
As a young political activist, astute, sincere and loved by many, he contested the Local Government election as a councillor and won under the platform of Congress for National Consensus in 1977.
In 1998, he was made the chairman of Oran Democratic Movement, a socio-political forum that steered the political course of the Oran political class into the People`s Democratic Party, PDP. That same year he was appointed one of the coordinators of PDP.
Because of his love for education and development of the youth, he established a post-primary institution, Modern Christian Institute, Oron, to serve as a citadel of training for secondary students. He had earlier served as the pioneer principal of Maton Secondary Commercial School, Gron.
Rt. Hon. Okon has also served in various capacities in the PDP and in 2007/08, he contested and was favourably nominated as standard bearer of PDP by consensus. In April 2008, as the standard bearer of PDP in Oran, he won the Local Government elections unopposed. He is happily married with four children.

History
The people of Oron, according to available records, migrated to their present location from the Cameroun. They came by sea, on rafts made of wood, bamboos and rope. The migration took place in about the 13th century. The people, grouped into Oron Ukpabang and Idua, embraced Western Education very early with the establishment of Methodist Boy’s High School, Oron in 1905.
Oron became a Division in August 1970 and in 1976, was made a local government area. However, following the local government creation exercise of the federal government in 1989, Oron was split into 3 Local Government Areas of Mbo, Oron and Okobo. Again in September 1991, Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government Area was carved out of Oron Local Government Area. Finally in December 1996, Udung Uko Local Government Area was further carved out of Oron.

People
The people live in the lower basin of the Cross River estuary. It is one of the three major ethnic groups in Akwa Ibom State.
The people are made up of Ukpabangs and Iduas. While the former group speaks Oron language, the latter speak both Oron and Efik languages. English is spoken as an official language. Oron people are industrious and hospitable. Their main occupations are fishing, farming, trading, crafts creations, among others.
Culture
The culture of Oron people is to a greater extent, the same as that of Ibibio and Annang ethnic groups of Akwa Ibom State. In the areas of dressing, menu dances, food, rituals and beliefs among others, the culture of the area has the potentials for tourist attraction.

- Construction of council, perimeter fence to tackle the security problem and Illegal trespassing by humans and animals Into the council secretariat.
- Overhead water tank at the Oron main market constructed by Oron LGA. This facility has solved the water need of both the traders and commutes of Oron sub· motorpark and the general public.
- Provision of overhead water tank at the Oron divisional police stadium donated by the Oron local government.

Geography
Oron is found in the flood plain of South Eastern Nigeria, with the land mainly intersected by numerous streams and tributaries flowing into Cross River. The entire coastline stretches from Uya Oron to Udung Uko.
Oron is in the tropical region and has a uniformly high temperature all the year round. The two main seasons are the dry which spans between October and April and wet season which starts around May and ends in September. There are also two prevailing winds – the South-West onshore winds which brings heavy rains and the North- East trade winds blowing across the Sahara Desert, which brings in the dry season.
| Language
The people have a distinct Oro language, though they speak and understand the Iblblo language. Oron has a rich culture expressed in songs, folklore and dances. The first National Museum east of the Niger and the Maritime Academy of Nigeria are located in Oron.
| Natural Resorces
- Deposits of solid minerals such as iron, free silica/glass sand and gravel. Good quantity of untapped natural gas and oil at Ukpata, Udung Okung, Edik Ekpu, etc.
- Presently, it has 25 corked oil wells.Seafoods such as crayfish, snipers, oyster and periwinkle abound richly.
- The mangrove forests provide timber and raw materials for medicinal purposes.
Commerce
The people are predominantly fishermen, farmers, and traders who trade across the Gulf of Guinea frontiers.
