Arrangements have been concluded by the Ibom Power Company (IPC), located in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area to evacuate and distribute 110 Mega-Watts of electricity to parts of Akwa Ibom State. Meanwhile, Eket and parts of Uyo axes are already enjoying the new transmission lines of 35 mega-watts released into the national grid in December last year. The new distribution is billed to cover Ikot Ekpene, Oron and Abak areas.
Barr Ime Asibong, the company secretary stated this last week when he received the executive members of a socio-political group in the state, One-For-Eight Initiative who were on a fact finding mission of three years administration of the state governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio.
While stating this, the company secretary however complained of the challenge of poor transmission lines, saying that the state governor had intervened in this direction by helping the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to effect changes on the lines for uninterrupted power generation.
He further informed that more of the turbines would be turned on to provide the 190MW needed to cover the entire state, and called on the communities where the lines cut across to desist from vandalizing the transmission lines to ensure an uninterrupted power distribution.
The secretary of the One-For-Eight Initiative who is also a board member of the company, Mr. Matins Udo-Inyang observed that when the present administration took over leadership of the state, the IPP project was at 50% completion, but through the commitment of the state governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, it has leveled up 100% completion.
The prime minister of the Initiative, Prince Godwin Ntukudeh, said that the group was elated on the feat, which he said would boost business activities in the state. He stated that the group embarked on the visit to practically see things for themselves with a view to convincing and passing a verdict that the governor has done well and should continue in 2011.
