Governor Akpabio’s resolution of turning Uyo into a modern city of repute was once again reaffirmed as sixteen(16) completed facilities undertaken by the administration’s inter-ministerial direct labour coordinating committee was commissioned on Thursday July 1st, 2010 in the area.
The facilities include six civic building projects, five water projects, three electrification projects, one school building project, and one road component project.
The six civic building projects were in the judiciary headquarters, high court complex, Metro Road, chief magistrate’s court, magistrate’s quarters, and motherless babies/remand home. The five mini water projects were in Oku district court, Ikono district court, judge’s quarters, multi-door court house, and magistrate’s quarters. The three electrification projects were in Atiku Abubakar, Ifa Ikot Akpabio, and Mbiabong Ikot Udo Owot. While drainage was constructed at the judiciary headquarters and rehabilitation of school building at St. Peters Primary school, Mbiabong Anyaya.
At the inauguration, the Governor who was represented by the Special Adviser, bureau of co-operative development, Barrister Saviour Udoh spoke on the government’s intention of transforming the capital city and giving it a befitting stature before the end of 2015. Projects inaugurated included a revenue court hall, an environmental court hall, a customary court hall as well as a water project at Ikono Uyo and other locations.
Speaking at the event, the chairman of the direct labour committee, Elder Friday Udoh announced that a total of over 100 projects would have been completed and commissioned in Uyo before the end of 2010. In his remarks, an elated chairman of the local government, Dr. Chris Nyong, thanked the Governor for this kind gesture while also assuring him of the total support of the people of Uyo in His 2nd term bid, come 2011.
